P.S. 187 is next door to Cabrini Terrace and is at the core of the community. The zoned status of the school enables children and parents to fully participate in activities during and after school hours. The parent teacher association and Friends of 187 are very active and have been able to help maintain the quality of education despite many years of citywide and state underfunding.
PLAYGROUNDS AND PARKS
There are two children's playgrounds within easy reach catering to all ages. And there are several parks - notably the tranquil Fort Tryon Park with flower beds and lawns overlooking the Hudson River and Inwood Hill Park which boasts a wooded area for hiking and jogging as well as a waterfront area ideal for summer activities.
Like much of New York City Hudson Heights enjoys very low crime rates thanks to the work of NYPD Precinct 34 situated on Broadway. It also helps that Cabrini Terrace has security cameras around the exterior of the building acting as a further deterrent.
SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS
Cabrini Terrace is situated close to the "village center" of 187th Street and Fort Washington Avenue. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from including Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Pizza and Vicky's Diner. Further south on 181st Street there are yet more choices including Cuban, Thai, Japanese and American. Supermarkets and banks are also close-by yet the area as a whole feels very uncrowded by commercial business.
